Homework is assigned Monday-Thursday. Plan on spending 10-60 minutes each night.
If your child "has no homework" when they get home, they still need to complete DYAD reading with an adult for 10 minutes- their poem or comprehension passage is a great option for this reading.
If it is taking your child longer than and hour at home, please come see me.

Spelling words are located in the Spalding notebook. You may find an online version in the "Spelling" Folder under the "Files" tab, if needed. However, students are HIGHLY encouraged to use their OWN Spalding notebook for homework.

Stuck on explaining the rules? Find a list of all the spelling & language rules discussed in class in the "FILES" tab above under "SPELLING."

Pre-Test Options:
1. A sibling or parent may give the spelling test (try to randomize the words as much as possible). Then, grade the test using the Spalding notebook and make corrections on your spelling packet.
2. Go to SPELLING CITY and complete the test online. Then, print it off and make corrections on your printed list. Attach it to your packet.
3. Use the link above to administer the test but DON'T type anything in online; instead, use your homework packet to record your words. Grade and make corrections as described in option #1 above.

IF YOUR CHILD FORGOT THEIR SPELLING PACKET AT SCHOOL:
Print an alternate assignment using the "files" tab above. This will NOT affect their homework completion percentage and they will receive full credit. However,  this option is only available for FULL credit ONCE per term.

Students are assigned a math lesson every night, along with corrections for previous assignments.
Each lesson contains 30 problems.*
For those that need an extra challenge, there are new bonus problems at the end of every lesson!

Please encourage your child to SHOW THEIR WORK whenever possible, ESPECIALLY when the problem uses words like "explain" or "describe".

If your child is struggling with a problem, look at the small number in parenthesis under the problem number; it matches the corresponding lesson number where you can refer to example problems.

IF YOUR CHILD FORGOT THEIR "BOX" PAPER AT SCHOOL:
You can print off the "box" homework paper we use for math under the Files Tab in "Math."

MATH CORRECTIONS:
Completing corrections on previous math lessons is highly encouraged to solidify concepts and recognize recurring mistakes. Corrections are to be turned in the following day. All accurately corrected problems earn FULL points back!
Check out the table below for the grading scale:
29-30 = A
26-28 = B
23-25 = C
21-22 = D
20 & below = REDO

*Lesson 1 only has 25 problems. Corrections do not count toward homework completion, but DEFINITELY affect accuracy scores!

Always read at least 10 minutes
every night and keep track of books you finish on the TACKLE 25 sheet!

A note about DYAD READING:
- One book - Share the same book
- Two voices - The stronger reader should read a little louder at a "regular pace"
- One smooth finger - The stronger reader shows where you are
- Discuss "crazy" words that are difficult to understand
- Have fun!!

Don't forget to memorize your poem each term:
